CFP Predictions 2017

At the beginning of the college football season, the ECHO made their predictions for the end-of-season playoff, as well as a few other forecasts on the side. While the majority of the football prophecy came true, a few interesting twists changed the predictions throughout the season. Here are the ECHO’s final college football predictions for the end of the year.

Allstate Sugar Bowl (#1 Clemson vs #4 Alabama)

A rematch of the championship game from the past two years, Clemson’s stacked defensive line and stable of running backs will power past the Crimson Tide’s injury laden roster. Prediction: Clemson 31, Alabama 10.

Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual (#2 Oklahoma vs #3 Georgia)

While Oklahoma’s explosive offense will prove a challenge for the third-ranked Bulldogs, Georgia’s running back tandem of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb will prove too much to handle for the Sooners’ relatively weak defense in a nail-biter. Prediction: Georgia 27, Oklahoma 24.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic (#5 Ohio State vs #8 USC)

After being snubbed by the playoff committee for the fourth spot, the Buckeyes will play angry, punishing the Trojans through the ground and air in a dominating fashion. USC quarterback Sam Darnold will throw 3 interceptions in a losing effort. Prediction: Ohio State 45, USC 20.

Capital One Orange Bowl (#6 Wisconsin vs #10 Miami)

Despite a lackluster performance against Clemson in the ACC championship, Miami’s “turnover chain” will come out multiple times in a defensive battle against the Badgers. Prediction: Miami 21, Wisconsin 16.

PlayStation Fiesta Bowl (#9 Penn State vs #11 Washington)

After a “disappointing” 10-win season, the Nittany Lions will ride future first-round pick Saquon Barkley to a close victory over the Huskies. Washington running back Myles Gaskin will pound out nearly 250 rushing yards in a tough loss. Prediction: Penn State 37, Washington 31.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (#7 Auburn vs #12 UCF)

Overlooked and underrated, the undefeated Knights will challenged Auburn until the very end. However, running back Kerryon Johnson will score a highlight-reel 40-yard touchdown in the final minute. Prediction: Auburn 34, UCF 31.
