Wildcat 2017 Fall Sports recap

This year’s ECHHS fall sports concluded recently in a well-rounded way. A major difference between the football team this year and last year is that this year, there was only the junior varsity team. This was due to the multitude of losses in football games last year. However, this did not stop the junior varsity team to play against the following high schools: North Moore, Carrboro, Orange, Hillside, Northwood, Cedar Ridge, Chapel Hill, Northern Durham, and Southern.

However, despite lacking a varsity team, many football players still remains positive. In a statement to the ECHO, starting middle linebacker, Grayson Clements, said that East will be prepared for next season.

“We’ve learned how to play together as a team, and we’ve learned how to prepare to win. We’ve gained a lot of valuable experience, and we definitely have become more confident about our chances to win.” He added that the new coaching staff has been invaluable.

“The coaches have been the largest source of East’s success. Special teams and the offensive line have improved greatly, and our starting quarterback, Will Donaldson, has gotten so much better.”

Women’s Field Hockey also experienced success, with both JV and Varsity having winning seasons. Although their last game on November 10th with a score of 2-1 against Charlotte Catholic School was a loss, they won 15 out of 18 of all the games this season.

In response to how the field hockey team has learned from this season, Lydia Treml, a junior goalkeeper, said, “We’ve learned that we have to work as a team all the time if we want to keep having success.”

Men’s Soccer made personal history in that they made it to the 2018 playoffs, thanks to their fantastic skill and dedication this season.

The Varsity Volleyball team ended their season with a game versus Open, and the Junior Varsity team concluded with a battle against Chapel Hill High School.
