    New Quarterbacks of 2018

    Of all of the new quarterbacks, starting or not, there have been a select few who have left fans watching the highlight reel over and over. Some big names in rookie starters include quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, number one draft pick for the Cleveland Browns; Sam Darnold, number three draft pick for the New York Jets; and Josh Rosen, number 10 draft pick for the Arizona Cardinals. Mayfield has proved a much-needed improvement to the Browns. In recent games against the Chargers, Ravens and Raiders, the Browns have only won once over the Ravens (but that’s expected of the Browns).     With a new car design and a fierce desire to reshuffle the Mercedes Dynasty, Sebastian Vettel has emerged in 2018 as a dominant force in Formula 1 again. In late 2017, the December issue, The ECHO published a prediction that Lewis Hamilton would stutter in the 2018 season and that Ferrari’s shining red cars would take back the art. It is safe to say that Hamilton has stuttered and Ferrari is on its way. Sebastian Vettel began the season with a big win at the opener, the Australian Grand Prix.     Obscure Sporting: Florentine Football

    At the visceral sound of a small cannon, the sound ricocheting off of Florence’s ancient structures, 27 players rush forward into the lurid brawl which is the sport of Florentine Football. Imagine a strange combination of handball, rugby, and hand-to-hand combat, in a sandy gladiator cage 80x40m, surrounded by jeering fans. This is the revived version of the 16th century Italian sport, calcio, which itself may be a revival of the antique Roman sport of harpastum.   In the Renaissance era, the brutal sport was limited to the most elite.     Bossaball is a sport with rhythm

    The sport of Bossaball is about rhythm. The rhythm of the movement of the players, jumping, kicking, and executing the final spike, all to the beat of the historic bossa nova brazilian dance music. See, in Bossabll, the referee is not only the regulator of play, but the DJ and party organizer. The sport historically combines elements of partying, music, dancing, gymnastics, volleyball, and soccer. The game is set up all around one giant, inflatable, volleyball court, with a trampoline on either side of the net.     ECHHS wrestling team gains popularity

    Wrestling is one of the more unique sports that there are at East Chapel Hill High School. It incorporates several different techniques and fighting styles, even aspects of jiu jitsu. It is about halfway through the wrestling season and the ECHHS Wrestling team has had their greatest number of wrestlers in years. The team consists mostly of younger students with only two juniors and seniors. The team currently has 10 wrestlers on the team that fill 9/14 of the weight classes. Because of the boost in numbers the team has been able to compete in a more rigorous conference. The tougher competition has allowed for the team to improve overall.…
