    East Band Concert: “One Band, One Sound”

    By Sam Killenberg East held it’s first band concert on Oct. 18. East’s Concert and Symphonic Bands both performed in front of a full audience of students, parents and teachers. The evening opened with the Concert Band, made up of freshmen band students. The band performed three songs: Ed Huckleby’s “Acclamations”, Frank Erickson’s “Balladair”, and Steven Reinke’s “River of Life”. The freshmen demonstrated surprising maturity in all of their selections, showing competence in a wide range of styles from the slow and mellow “Balladair” to the more driven sections of “Acclamations” and “River of Life”.     Wealth In Water Scores Record Deal

    By Victoria Brancazio After only nine months of practicing together, East sophomore Jonathan Schwartz’s band, Wealth In Water, has officially signed to Indianola Records. Since September, all six members of Wealth In Water have created a complex mixture of genres that generates their unique sound. “Our sound as a band is an amalgamation of everything from indie to progressive rock, to post-hardcore,” Schwartz, Wealth in Water’s drummer, said. Wealth In Water credits its sound to the various musical backgrounds and preferences of each of its members. “On a normal day I might find [vocalist] Pierce [Arnold] listening to Fleet Foxes, while [guitarist] Alex [Lopez] is getting down to some Oceano,”…

    Band concert takes audience on musical adventure

    By Lena Wilson Audience members filing into the auditorium before the band concert Thursday evening were greeted with casual tunes from East’s jazz combo, setting a chill and classy mood to overcome the setting’s usual association with long-winded assemblies and AP test pre-administration.  As 7:30 approached, the combo finished their last song and packed up, clearing the stage for the beginning of the big-band concert.
