    New North Carolina laws enacted in 2016

    By Karlton Tate On Jan. 1, several sweeping statewide laws began to take effect, including a controversial abortion statute approved by Gov. Pat McCrory in June, a new workplace bill limiting employee protections in lawsuits with their employer, and Photo ID requirements at voting polls. The new abortion law requires abortion providers to send records of all abortions and induced miscarriages after the 16th week of pregnancy to the State Department of Health and Human Services. These records include ultrasound images and various other measurements.     Carolina Men’s Basketball: primed for perfection

    By Karlton Tate The strongest Carolina basketball team in recent years, complete with phenomenal big men, a deep bench, and a versatile offense, finally appears equipped to dominate ACC conference play and reach the Final Four. The absence of prominent starters throughout the season thus far has granted increased playing time to various other players and positions on the deep Carolina bench. A metacarpal fracture in senior guard Marcus Paige’s right hand sent him to the sidelines for the Tar Heels’ first six games, giving guards Joel Berry and Nate Britt valuable playing time against low-stakes opponents.
