    The night before the game against Chapel Hill, even though the East men’s soccer team had already been riding a wave of wins, there was no slacking off in practice. Sure, because this is East, as I was watching their warm ups there was an intense discussion of the rhetorical triangle at the same time as the wind sprints, but even when the coach said that anybody could take a break when they need to, nobody slowed down.     World Cup Qualification Finalized

    With their monumental 2-0 home win on November 15 over New Zealand, Peru clinched the final spot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The now-finalized 32 team selection includes a number of surprises, including Italy, Chile, the Netherlands, and the US all failing to qualify. Many fans were particularly shocked that Italy, who have won the World Cup four times and qualified for every tournament since 1958, were unable to qualify. The Italians made it to the playoff round after finishing second in their qualifying group behind Spain, and were matched up with Sweden.     Wildcat 2017 Fall Sports recap

    This year’s ECHHS fall sports concluded recently in a well-rounded way. A major difference between the football team this year and last year is that this year, there was only the junior varsity team. This was due to the multitude of losses in football games last year. However, this did not stop the junior varsity team to play against the following high schools: North Moore, Carrboro, Orange, Hillside, Northwood, Cedar Ridge, Chapel Hill, Northern Durham, and Southern. However, despite lacking a varsity team, many football players still remains positive.     East women’s soccer

    This year, the East women’s soccer teams have come together to give outstanding performances in their games thus far. Both Junior varsity and varsity are ahead on their wins and each team hopes to keep their numbers up and continue to work together smoothly. The varsity team consists of three freshmen, 11 sophomores, one junior, and five seniors. On the other hand, the junior varsity team has 10 freshmen, six sophomores, and two juniors. Injuries can have major effects on the athlete physically, mentally, and later in life.
